What Does It Mean To Crush Goals?

I wanted to dedicate this blog post to to setting goals, because it is the highlight of my action items list for the new year. We sometimes have all these fabulous business ideas, but then life happens and we get side tracked. It can feel extremely discouraging and unmotivating when you can’t seem to figure out how to move the needle on the wheel. You’ll ask yourself questions like “why haven’t I gained a following yet?”, “why can’t I keep a steady flow of customers”, “why haven’t any of my trackable stats been increasing?”, etc. The answer my friend is that you’ve probably failed to establish your essential, concrete business goals. Once you have established those business goals, you will be able to achieve a.k.a CRUSH those goals and start to see some positive results within your business. Here’s how:

1. Think of the long term business goals you would only dream of accomplishing!

That’s right, think of the goal that you’re almost embarrassed to say out loud because it sounds so far fetched. This could be a numerical business goal such as profits for the year, it could be getting exposure in a major publication or just something as simple as being able to work full-time from home. Dream BIG and aim high with this one because first of all, nothing is really out of your reach. What I’ve learned is that most of the work is changing our mindset to what is attainable.. the rest is just hard work and dedication. You’ll be surprised to learn that once you really tap into that major long term business goal that you have been afraid to come to terms with and actually write it down on a piece of paper, after a while, it really doesn’t seem as intimidating! You’ll see it starring back at you and think, okay there it is… this is what I am trying to achieve here. I like this exercise because it forces you to come to terms with what you are ultimately trying to accomplish from a business perspective and sets the tone for the direction you will have to go in. Just remember that sometimes, pivots will need to be made once you get clear on what the overall goal is, so don’t be discouraged if you have to make some changes in your business model. After you have established your long term goal, it is then time to get down to business on how you will reach that goal.

2. Make the long term goal happen, by creating smaller goals under that!

Once you have your long term business goal written down, it is essential to plan out how you will work towards making that goal happen by creating smaller more attainable goals that will guide you to the bigger picture. Accomplishing the smaller goals will eventually lead you on the path to smashing the bigger goals, that you once thought were absolutely silly to even write down on a piece of paper! These smaller goals will make you feel more organized and can act as a way to break the major goals down, so that you’re not so overwhelmed in where to start. When you break things down into smaller compartments, it will feel as though you have a much easier grasp on the overall task at hand. I find it best to break up the year into quarters, this way you have a time line for your smaller goals to track and you can gradually see them increase over time.

3. Create your action items list

Once you have your bigger goals broken down into smaller compartments, you want to create your action items list to help you reach those quarterly business goals. When you figure out how you are going to start putting your business plans in motion, everything will seem a lot less stressful and a lot less unachievable. Remember, most of what is in our way is mental, so once you can clearly see the path and work through the road blocks by configuring how you’ll get from point A to point B, you will start to see not only a significant shift in your mindset but also in your business.

4. Get Organized

One of the best things you can do to stay on top of your goals is to get organized! Use your resources to help you stay focused and keep you on track such as a monthly planner, digital calendar, apps for content scheduling, etc. Google calendar is a favorite and very easy to use if your someone that likes to see the tasks for the day color coded and organized down to the minute. Having a schedule in place will make things so much easier when in the execution phase, because it alleviates the feeling of being bombarded. It’s also great because it can be realistic when scheduling when you can actually work on your home business goals and still handle everyday life tasks as well.

5. Take Action!

We are now ready to take action and start implementing the tasks in the action items list! At this point, you should have everything written down and mapped out from start to finish, so it is now time to start CRUSHING those goals one step at a time. Remember to stay focused and stay on track to reach your target checkpoints. Once you start to see some progress, it will only serve as more motivation for you to keep going. Before you know it, not only will you have built up more of a following with your business and increased your stats, but you’ll have also established a work ethic that is dedicated solely to your home business!
